On the morning of April 26, 2022, Hanoi University of Civil Engineering (HUCE) held a meeting to implement the International Cooperation Project “Demonstration and commercialization of building energy efficiency technology suitable to the climatic and economic conditions of Vietnam” among Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, Korea Conformity Laboratory (KCL) and Vietnamese and Korean research institutes and enterprises. The project is funded by the Government of Korea and it is implemented in the period of 2020-2023. The main objective of the project is to cooperate in researching, applying and commercializing building energy efficiency technologies that are suitable to Vietnam's climatic and economic conditions, towards promoting economical and efficient use of energy in construction works and contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the construction sector, especially in the context that Vietnam has made strong commitments at The United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties - COP26 to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
Attending the meeting, on the Korean side, there were Dr. Sung Uk Joo – KCL Institute, Project Leader; Dr. Choi Won Ki – Research Director of SONUSYS Company; Dr. Lee Young Ho, CEO of TOP.A.A Company and other members. On the side of Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, there were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Giang - Vice Rector; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Viet Nga – Dean of Faculty of Environmental Engineering; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duc Luong – Vice Dean of Faculty of Environmental Engineering; Dr. Nguyen Tien Dung - Head of International Relations Department; MSc. Pham Tien Toi - Head of Device Administration Department; MSc. Bui Quang Trung - Head of Political-Students Affairs Department; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Ngoc Quang – Head of Microclimate and Built Environment Department, and lecturers of Faculty of Environmental Engineering.

Speaking at the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Giang - Vice Rector sincerely thanked the Korean partners and highly appreciated the cooperation efforts of the two sides in implementing research activities of the project over the past time to concretize the contents of the MOU which were signed by Hanoi University of Civil Engineering and KCL Institute in November 2019. Activities and results of the Project, especially the content of construction implementation and operation of “Living Lab” will not only contribute to promoting cooperation between Hanoi University of Civil Engineering and Korean partners in the field of economical and efficient use of energy in construction works, but also contribute to the implementation of scientific research and training activities, promoting the strengths of Hanoi University of Civil Engineering in related fields. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Giang said that Hanoi University of Civil Engineering was committed to providing necessary facilities and support to serve the construction of “Living Lab” as well as other planned activities of the Project.

On behalf of the Korean partners, Dr. Sung Uk Joo - Project Chairman of the Korean side thanked for the warm welcome as well as the cooperation commitments of Hanoi University of Civil Engineering to promote the activities of the Project. Dr. Sung Uk Joo said that the Korean partner would coordinate with Hanoi University of Civil Engineering to soon complete the construction and operation of "Living Lab" at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering - an important activity within the cooperation framework of the Project. Living Lab is designed and built to integrate the latest energy-saving and efficient technologies in construction projects such as wall and roof insulation, insulating glass, heat recovery ventilation equipment, glazing insulation film, smart lighting system... The simultaneous application of these technologies is estimated to save more than 40% of the energy consumed in conventional construction works. The practical use efficiency of the above energy-saving technologies will be evaluated by the Hanoi University of Civil Engineering project team in the tropical climate of Vietnam.

At the end of the meeting, the two sides agreed to approve the plan to implement the contents and activities of the Project in 2022, including: completing the construction of the "Living Lab"; building and transferring software to simulate energy consumption in construction; training in related fields; connect and cooperate with stakeholders in Vietnam and Korea.
